Randy Moss Motorsports Names Marc Davis to Drive No. 81 Race Truck Gateway International Raceway
Howard University's WHUR 96.3 Radio to Sponsor Davis’ Debut in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Statesville, NC (August 26, 2008)- Randy Moss Motorsports (RMM) announced today that 18-year old Marc Davis will make his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) debut September 6, 2008 at Gateway International Speedway in the RMM No. 81 race truck with sponsorship from Howard University's WHUR 96.3 Radio.
The pairing of RMM and Davis, a native of Silver Spring, Maryland, for the Camping World 200 continues the young driver’s tie to both NASCAR and the NFL. Davis’ entry in to NASCAR racing came when his on-track talent caught the eye of Joe Gibbs. Gibbs immediately recruited him for the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR)/Reggie White Diversity Program created for the grassroots stock car level to identify and assist minorities with the desire and talent to make a career in motorsports.
RMM is the only organization in all of NASCAR with ownership by an active NFL player.
"This is a big day for me," said Davis, who has been competing in NASCAR's Camping World Series for two years with JGR. “I have been preparing for it all my life a chance to race in NASCAR on a national level. Randy Moss and David Dollar have given me a wonderful opportunity for my first start in the NCTS.
“I would like to thank WHUR for their belief in my talent and for coming on board to support my debut in the Truck Series.”
"Marc is one of the talented young drivers with a very bright future, said Dollar. “He is a great fit with our team and brings an already impressive racing resume at such a young age.”
Moss is equally as excited about adding Davis to his driver roster, "This is why I came to NASCAR. This is pretty cool deal. Marc has worked hard and raced his way up to this level. I'm glad I have the opportunity to help him develop and succeed"
Davis' NASCAR dreams began at age six with BMX, then continued through quarter midgets, bandoleros, and two national championships in legend cars moving to limited and late model divisions. He currently sits fourth in the point standings of the NASCAR’s Camping World Series East and has made two starts in the ARCA/REMAX Series.
Davis brings sponsorship from his hometown supporter, WHUR 96.3 Radio. Howard University owns WHUR 96.3 Radio and station general manager Jim Watkins is a NASCAR fan and Marc's number one supporter. WHUR 96.3 Radio is Davis' sponsor in ARCA, Camping World Series races at Dover and South Boston and now in his NCTS debut.
