From humble beginnings in a small shop in Hennessey, OK, to a state-of-the-art 35,000 square foot building in the heart of NASCAR racing country, Statesville, NC, Morgan Dollar Motorsports was the vision and product of David Dollar.
Dollar was born and raised in Hennessey, OK. He began racing go-carts at age six, and was building his own cars by age 14. His driving career was short lived, as he decided to pursue college instead of wins on the racetrack. However, his ambition to be involved in auto racing remained and he soon found himself back at the track - this time as a car owner.
Dollar returned to racing in 1986 as an owner of limited late models. His talent as a team owner was immediately evident as his cars and drivers scored more than 500 feature wins. After over 10 years in local and regional late model competition, his Dollar Motorsports team entered the NCTS. In 1997 Dollar was introduced to a young racer named Rob Morgan who had been trying to establish a solid ride in the NCTS. The introduction resulted in Morgan joining Dollar as a partner to run full time in the NCTS.
In 1998, Morgan Dollar Motorsports was formed and headquartered out of Dollar’s already established Oklahoma facility with Morgan as the driver. Morgan stayed in the cockpit for the 1999 and 2000 seasons but thereafter made the decision to retire as a driver.
Veteran driver Dennis Setzer came on board as the driver in 2001. The change netted the team instant results with a trip to victory lane for the first time at Memphis Motorsports Park in June 2001.
The team has scored 13 victories with Setzer and Cup Series drivers Bobby Labonte and Clint Bowyer at the wheel. Setzer has had a shot at championships as well, finishing runner-up in the standings in 2003, 2004 and 2005. All told, trucks fielded by Dollar have scored 44 top-five and 92 top-ten finishes. In 2004 the team moved from Oklahoma to a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of NASCAR country located in Statesville, NC.
The Hennessey, Oklahoma native entered the 2008 season with his sights set on continuing his successful legacy. All of the hard work put into building a winning organization since 1998 paid off when the longtime NASCAR owner was presented with the opportunity to bring in NFL All-Pro Wide Receiver Randy Moss on as a 50% owner. Dollar and Moss immediately saw the synergies that existed between the two and the birth of Randy Moss Motorsports was born on July 3, 2008. David Dollar looks for this partnership to form a long lasting and successful relationship in NASCAR.
